Brainerd Public Schools: Ready for Spring Construction

The ICS team is thrilled for Brainerd Public Schools and all the positive change they’ve seen as a part of their construction projects over the winter! Congratulations to the administration, teachers, staff at BPS for their flexibility, determination, and commitment to the future during a challenging time in education. As the District enters its second-to-last summer of construction, they’ll see lots of change this spring and summer.

We’d also like to give kudos to all the contractors we’ve worked with for their dedication and ability to overcome obstacles such as equipment delays and general uncertainty amid the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s been such a challenging year, but we couldn’t have successful projects without you!

Four projects have been completed so far, including Forestview Middle School, the new Baxter Elementary buildingHarrison Elementary, and Nisswa Elementary

ICS continued construction on five other projects throughout the winter, including Garfield Elementary, Lowell Elementary, Riverside Elementary, the Warrior Early Learning Center, and the North campus of Brainerd high school.

Warrior Early Learning Center is in the final construction stages and will be wrapping up this spring. While Garfield Elementary, Lowell Elementary, and Riverside Elementary will be wrapping up just in time for school to start this coming fall.

The remodel and addition of the high school’s North campus broke ground in 2019 and will continue construction throughout this summer. By renovating the academic spaces, adding a new performing arts center, and a new aquatics facility, this project will bring all 9th-12th grade students under one roof.  The building will open at the start of the 2021-2022 school year, but there will still be 72,000 square feet of the main academic wing that will be renovated during the summer of 2022.

There is one project that kicks off construction this spring: the South campus of Brainerd High School. The plan for this building is to remodel the current spaces to accommodate transitional programs and programs currently at the Lincoln Education Center. The school board approved the construction documents this past winter, and the bids were awarded in February. This project will be complete before the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

Overall, ICS anticipates managing five projects this summer, totaling approximately $30 million of construction. Our team is incredibly excited to be a part of the educational impact throughout the Brainerd area.
